PSARA License (Private Security Agency)

The PSARA License under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 is mandatory for any company, firm, or individual providing private security guard services in India. Without this license, a security agency cannot legally operate, recruit guards, or deploy security personnel at client locations.

Conditions for PSARA License

• The company must be incorporated in India (Private Limited, LLP, or Partnership).

• Security guards must be trained at a recognized PSARA training institute.
• The agency must have adequate office space and infrastructure.
• License is state-specific — separate license required for each state of operation.

Documents Required

• Certificate of Incorporation / Partnership Deed / MoA and AoA.
• PAN Card of the agency and all directors/partners.
• Affidavit of the applicant declaring no criminal record.
• List of supervisors and security guards proposed to be deployed.
• Training certificates of guards from PSARA-recognized training institutes.
• Police Verification Certificate of all directors/partners.
• Proof of office premises (rent agreement or ownership documents).

License Process

1. Apply to the Controlling Authority (State Home Department / District Collector) in the required state.
2. Submit all required documents including police clearance certificates and training certificates.
3. Controlling Authority conducts background verification and document review.
4. Site inspection of office premises may be conducted.
5. On approval, PSARA License is issued — valid for 5 years and renewable.
